Emilia Cooke
Of and In a Place
It was different:
street myths, vanished
into nothingness
a ghostly afterthought of what once stood.
A city’s memories
lingered albeit tentatively
as if offered a better body to live
they would move without hesitation.
The rubble seemed dangerously soft.
Patiently waiting,
yet menacingly for a weight so heavy
that it would crumble to dust.
It was too easy to reduce it all to a dream.
This was reality, no doubt.
and it cannot be covered up
there are too many traces
of sadness
of love
of heart break. Of long sleepless nights
good and bad.
No.
Content in proceedings,
But let us escape whilst those tiny pieces
of fond ephemera could not be desperately clung to
only to never
leave our side.
